METHANOL FOR RACING

Here is a Product we spent many hours researching to give our customers the best overview and product understanding possible.

Methanol is available in two grades. A fuel grade and a tech grade. The tech grade is not filtered and is packaged in pre-used drums that allegedly have been cleaned. The drums could have held molasses, gear box oil or what ever. Any residue remaining in the drums after cleaning could leech off into the methanol and damage your race engine.

When purchasing tech grade methanol, you are charged a deposit and assessed a cleaning fee when you return the drum. Tech grade can be purchased in the Northwest at Tarr, Univar, Wilcox Fuel, NW Solvents and others. Call us for the list. Race Cars For Kids also has tech grade available, although we don’t recommend it for $129.00 per drum.

The racing fuel grade is not only filtered but is packaged in new drums. You don’t pay a deposit or a cleaning fee and you keep drum or give it to some one who wants to buy tech grade and can us it as a deposit. The racing fuels grade of methanol is refined at a plant in Texas and all three west coast racing fuel distributors, VP Racing Fuels, Sunoco Racing Fuel and ERC (energy research corporation) buy the methanol and package it there. The methanol is identical, all three use new drums. VP Racing fuels uses a polyurethane liner in their drums to climanated condensation. I believe though if you move the fuel at least annually you won’t have a condensation issue storing it in a dry shop is also recommended. VP fuels is usually $25.00 more per drum than the other two distributors mainly because of the drum liner. None of the three distributors use an additive of any kind.

Currently Race Cars For Kids warehouses Sunoco Racing Fuels and offers it at the following pricing structure.

55 Gallon Drum $169.00(3.07 Gallon)

$3.69 Gallon in Small Quantities
